With the amount of advertisements we’re bombarded with every day, I’m pretty sure that everyone understands the importance of a personal skin care routine. However, personal skin care seems to have various meanings depending on who you talk to. For some, it means washing their face with a bar of soap, for others, it’s a 4 step process that is done twice a day. Still others believe that personal skincare is taken care of at the day spa once a month by someone else. While some people are sticklers about their skin, others seem to do the bare minimum when and if they even think about it.

While that type of action may work well while you’re young, believe me, you’ll be regretting that passive behavior regarding your skin when you get a little older.

Proper personal skin care is all about developing and diligently following a daily routine in order to give your skin the nourishment it needs to stay looking its very best. Our skin is the largest organ of our body and it’s the most neglected.

To be honest, it’s not that difficult to take care of your skin, yet some people are too lazy to even wash their makeup off their face before going to bed. Your body, including your skin, rejuvenates and repairs itself while you sleep so if you go to bed with it covered with makeup, you’re not giving it a fair chance to do what it does naturally.

Once you determine your skin type – oily, dry, combination – then you’ll need to find products that are geared toward that particular skin type. If you have oily skin and you buy products for dry skin, you’re going to end up clogging your pores and developing acne and pimples, plus your skin will be so shiny it can be seen from outer space.

If your skin is dry and you use a lot of alcohol based products, chances are your skin will dry up and become cracked and unhealthy. Who wants that? Did you know that wrinkles appear more noticeable on dry skin?

And while we’re on the subject of wrinkles, you have to understand that they do no appear overnight. It takes years of work to develop them. And once you have them, it’s extremely difficult and expensive to do anything about it.

Exposure to the sun will wrinkle your skin quickly so be sure to apply sunscreen to your face before going out. Smoking is another factor that will age your skin faster than you will believe. Don’t believe me, just look at any smoker’s face – notice the wrinkles around the eyes and the mouth.

Find a good, solid personal skin care routine that you can follow and just do it. You’ll be so thankful that you developed it early enough to offset some of the unwanted signs of aging that we fight so hard to get rid of once they appear!
